The Frontier Symposium on Intelligent Nanorobotics and Nanosystems of Fudan Science and Technology Innovation Forum Successfully Held
The Frontier Symposium on Intelligent Nanorobotics and Nanosystems, part of the Fudan Science and Technology Innovation Forum, was successfully held on April 14, 2025, at Fudan University’s Jiangwan Campus. This symposium focused on cutting-edge advancements in nanotechnology, brought together distinguished scholars from around the world, including Germany, Russia, France, Thailand, and other countries, alongside leading experts from top-tier Chinese research institutions, to engage in profound dialogues on frontier fields of nanorobotics and intelligent micro/nano systems.
Distinguished attendees included Prof. Oliver G. Schmidt (Founding Dean of the International Institute for Intelligent Nanorobots and Nanosystems, elected member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering), Prof. Di Zengfeng (Secretary of Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, CAS), Senior Project Officials Yang Wenzhan and Shi Kuangwei (Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission), Senior Editor Shen Muxian (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.), Director Yang Peng (Fudan University's Vertical Projects Division), Director Feng Xiaoyan (International Cooperation Office), Prof. Xi Wang (French National Center for Scientific Research, CNRS), and Prof. Suwit Kiravittaya (Chulalongkorn University, Thailand).
Prof. Oliver G. Schmidt initiated the academic discussions with his keynote lecture From Flat Chips to 3D Robots: Technological Breakthroughs at Your Fingertips, systematically presenting his team's breakthrough achievements in 3D micro/nano robotics. This presentation set the stage for a series of high-caliber academic talks delivered by six distinguished global experts: Prof. Dmitry A. Gorin (Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Russia), Prof. Xu Fan (Fudan University), Prof. Liu Qingkun and Prof. Ma Zhichao (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Prof. Wang Wei (Westlake University), and Prof. Qi Kai (Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, CAS). Their presentations spanned critical domains such as nanorobots, nanosystems, micro/nanotechnology in biomedical engineering, and integrated circuit-compatible microrobotics, sparking vibrant academic exchanges and in-depth discussions among participants.
The symposium also witnessed the official launch of the “International Joint Laboratory for Micro/Nanorobots in Exosome Isolation and Detection” led by the host institution Prof. Huang Gaoshan elaborated on the laboratory's strategic blueprint encompassing precision manipulation of intelligent robots at micro/nano scales, transnational collaborative R&D mechanisms, biomedical applications, and clinical translation pathways. He emphasized the paradigm-shifting potential of international scientific collaboration in driving nanotechnology innovation. Post-symposium laboratory visits provided participants with firsthand insights into facilities, laying the groundwork for future interdisciplinary and cross-regional collaborations.
This symposium received substantial support from globally renowned enterprises including Carl Zeiss, Renishaw, JEOL Ltd., and Hongzhi MicroTech. These partnerships enabled the creation of a high-level academic exchange platform for nanotechnology experts worldwide. Through interdisciplinary discussions and technical knowledge-sharing, the event effectively promoted disciplinary convergence and injected strong momentum into the innovative development of nanorobotics research frontiers.
